Lights off. McDonald's famous golden arches were not in sight last March 28 as the fast food chain joined Earth Hour 2009

Fast food giant McDonald’s participated in Earth Hour 2009 last March 28, 2009 from 8:30-9:30 pm. Over 15 million Filipinos and 500 businesses in key cities joined the successful initiative.

All McDonald’s free standing drive-thru stores in the country turned off their pylon and signage lights, in support of Earth Hour. McDonald’s also actively promoted Earth Hour to their customers by displaying informational posters inside stores, calling on them to do the same. According to President and Chief Executive Officer of McDonald’s Mr. Kenneth S. Yang "We at McDonald’s strongly believe that by this simple act of turning off our lights in our stores for one hour, we have helped in the conservation of energy and hopefully have encouraged others to do so as well." Mr. Yang further added that, "Earth Hour is a great initiative but it is now up to us to be consistent in our efforts. We at McDonald’s will be doing our part in saving energy."

Earth Hour is an annual, international campaign calling on everyone from all parts of the world to turn off their lights for one hour. This is in response for a serious and sustained action on the fight against global warming.
